One thing led to another and I came across this picture on Flickr: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/thelovewalrus\/90172302\/in\/photostream\/\">http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/thelovewalrus\/90172302\/in\/photostream\/<\/a>. It is a beautiful picture, taken in the winter, of a wooden church near Zakopane. I was there! It&#8217;s a beautiful church, and one I will never forget.<\/p>\n<p>The story of the church, I beleive, goes something like this&#8230; The Polish mountain people the\u00a0G\u00f3rale, are deeply religious. Pope John Paul II was Polish. In 1981, he was shot in an assasination attempt. The\u00a0G\u00f3rale of the region held a vigil and promised that if he survived, they&#8217;d erect a church in his honor. He did and they did.
