It is a wonderful and historic city. It was founded in 1580 by Jan Zamoyski, chancellor and hetman (military leader). It was on a trade route linking the Black Sea with northern and western Europe.\u00a0 The city was designed as a Renaissance town, and maintains a lot of that character. You can see that in my pictures here: <a href=\"http:\/\/poland.leonkonieczny.com\/Albums\/Poland%202011\/Zamo\u015b\u0107\/index.html\">http:\/\/poland.leonkonieczny.com\/Albums\/Poland%202011\/Zamo\u015b\u0107\/index.html<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>At one time the central city was a walled fortress, but years of war have removed most of that. Still, it has many historic features and is well worth your time visiting.
